Karnivor for cats

One product is currently available for cats. A second one is in development. Because of the differences in the manner cats and dogs metabolize food the mineral content is lesser in the product. The minerals are balances with the other ingredients depending on the energy content of the receipe.
The energetic value of the components are for the cat 3,3 kcal / gram for carbohydrates, 3,5 kcal / gram for proteins and 8 kcal / gram for fats compared to 3,52 kcal / gram for carbohydrates and proteins and 8,46 kcal/gram for fats for dogs(R.Wolter, 1988 – Diététique du chien et du chat, p.17). Therefore, for the same food, suppose 42% proteins, 23% fats and 28% carbohydrates, cat will gain 423 kcal in a 100 grams meal, on a dry diet. So if we want to give 1000 kcal, cats will need to eat more. This means that minerals need to be diluted in ratio to the content to satisfy cats need if the needs were the same for the two species. In reality, the needs for some minerals are slightly lower for cats. It’s important to readjust depending of the specie.
Our current product for cats is made up of cereals (15%) and horsemeat. Cats love horsemeat. We do add fish to the receipe as this small incites cats and eases the transition.
This product is sold in a box of 60 medallions. Most cats eat two medallions per day (one in the morning and night). Usually a box per mouth is sufficient to nourish a cat.
